    Great test and happy independence day! Gotta say I disagree though. I think this is one of the more effective rounds on the market today. For what it's worth, I read about a guy who used this round in a self defense shooting protecting himself and his girlfriend at the time. The perp was shot once in the chest and dropped where he stood. Only shooting I know of so nothing conclusive but worth mentioning. It's unfortunate you couldn't get reliable readings on the ammo. The velocity is usually well above advertised. Thanks again for the test and take care.

      Thanks. Nothing wrong with disagreeing as there is no absolutely definitive answer to my tests or anyone else's tests. They are tests and not reality. In fact, even a bullet that works once in reality may be shown to fail in another instance. Here's the key: this fellow did it just right: A well placed shot... that is the key to making any bullet perform. Thanks for sharing that!

    Enjoyed the video. A few suggestions: 1. Buy a Garmin Xero 2. If you’re going to use the LR buy a magnetic trigger.3. Also, it helps to set the lab radar at a slight angle towards the path of the bullet . This gives better readings because the bullet will spend more time in the radar.

    I have a question about bullet weight. I use 69 grain Sierra Match king bullets. I weight them and I have from 69 grain to 69.4 grain bullets. To get 69 grains does it effect the bullet to sand off the excess off at the base of the round?

    • @sdkweber
      @sdkweber 7 днів тому

      You will find some variability in the actual weight of most bullets. You can sort them by weight so as you shoot them each group will be consistent. Do not try to alter the bullet because doing so will effect the aerodynamics and flight characteristics of the bullet even if you work on the base of the bullet. That is the place where the air currents meet after passing over the bullet and form some turbulence. Altering the base of the bullet will alter the airflow dynamics as is not recommended. I hope this helps.

    G9 is barrier blind ammunition that maintains its POA/POI while penetrating difficult real world barriers such as windshields and bone. This capability opens up a range of possibilities including being able to penetrate the skull outside of the traditional ocular cavity. While your PAC-T methodology may be fine with hollow point technology, your results would be much more comprehensive and meaningful if you expanded your PAC-T protocol to include challenging barriers that are faced in the real world and applied this standard to all types of ammo. Doing so would position G9 in the broader context. I mean, who cares if brand XYZ has better penetration or temporary wound cavitation in your test if the bullet is stopped or deviated by a barrier?

    • @sdkweber
      @sdkweber 9 днів тому

      Interesting note. I think the test we did with a jacket and leather barrier emulates a real world situation quite well. Realistically, most of us are not going to be shooting bad guys through car doors or glass windshields but much more likely confronting a bad guy at close range with nothing between us but clothing. Do you see what I mean?

    • @karimmanassa9634
      @karimmanassa9634 9 днів тому

      @@sdkweber If we are talking about an ATM robbery or carjacking or even home invasion, perhaps you are right (although I live in South Florida where most people don't wear leather or jackets). I am thinking more of active shooters, body armor, store robberies, gas station encounters . . . situations where you may have barriers between you and the center of mass that need to be breached or adjust the firing solution for head shots. Regardless, I think not taking into account one of the key benefits and purposes of barrier-blind ammo like this, and then comparing it to conventional HP technology is shortchanging the viewer both in terms of analyzing the results as well as considering self defense scenarios.

    • @sdkweber
      @sdkweber 9 днів тому

As a civilian would it be best to just leave the area (if possible) instead of trying to shoot? There are a myriad of variables and trying to cover each would take a lifetime. BTW, One of my favorites (favorite only because it did so well in my testsl) is the Corbon DPX. A very good barrier blind bullet in all tests thus far. We have videos these bullets also. Fluted solid monolithic bullets are designed to produce exceptional wound channels and I do not think the G9 performed that poorly. However, its penetration was totally unacceptable. I have seen tests of the Underwood 90gr Xtreme Defender, with a similar fluted monolithic bullet (made by Lehigh), perform much better overall.

    Now we know what happened to your old Carhartt! I really like the changes and additions you're making to the PAC-T test and you've certainly selected a great group of bullets. It's easy to almost want to give the HST and the Critical Duty/Defense loads a pass because of their reputation but your testing will certainly make a difference in future buying decisions. I think where the G9 and similar bullets like the Lehigh Defense XP would shine is in a one for one exchange over standard ball ammo when trying to penetrate heavy winter clothing like down parkas or, God forbid you had nothing else, thick skinned animals like a bear. I'm curious, do you watch the UA-cam channel The Ballistic Machinist? He manufactures and sells his own ammunition and the results from the 9mm are compelling. If you have a few bucks left in your pocket and think his tests merit the higher standards of the PAC-T, it may be worth trying a box. Cheers!

    So much packed into this video. It is almost maddening to imagine how much manual calculating post Civil War snipers must have been trying to do with a little pencil and scratch pad to record their dope. It's certainly reasonable in today's world to send a sniper team to gather data in different climates without much fuss. I'd guess that anything pre-1990's though must have involved a lot of on the fly guesswork when guys were dropped into a strange environment with a target list and expected to score the hit.

    The disintegration part is BS for sure. As someone who comes from a lot of high power PCP experience i can assure you that there is no such thing as the trans-sonic tumble or yaw which ppl claim. Airguns also have the advantage of very little velocity spread and SD when regulated and this has been proven wrong many times over.

    Hi just found your content and am liking it so far. I have 2 questions in regards to the rifling and how it impacts the accuracy. Q1: Does the way the rifling is created and inserted into the barrel matter? i.e whether it is hammer forged, cold forged, cryogenics etc? Q2 Would it impact the accuracy if the rifling had like a ramp or bevel on the edge where the bullet meets instead of the sharp 90 degree edge that the bullet slams into when fired? Cheers from Australia and thanks again.

    • @sdkweber
      @sdkweber 20 днів тому

      Hello and thanks for watching from Australia. Good questions. First the type of rifling effects the longevity of the barrel. And can also effect the precision. For example Bartlein (and other) custom barrels produce better precision for a reason. They are very well made barrels, with carefully cut rifling (or hammer forged), and they use very good steel. For your question #2, the ramp you refer to is already in use. It is called the Leade and its purpose it so "lead" the bullet into the rifle. Some manufacturers use a steeper leade and others a more gradual lead. The crown on the muzzle is also very important for precision. I hope this answers your questions. Thanks for watching.

    • @sdkweber
      @sdkweber 21 день тому

      Another one to look at is the .30 Nosler. The 300 PRC is excellent. Just last weekend my son and I were consistently hit an 18" steel plate at 910 yards under windy conditions. The .300 PRC bullets are "mapped" using Doppler radar and all this is available through Hornday's 4DOF, allowing me to get a hit on my second shot at that range (the wind pushed it right on shot one so needed one more click). From that point, we rarely missed. I am not sure the Nosler will have that available and its not chambered in lots of rifles. Thanks for watching and posting.

    The light transmission of the kahles 318 is 95.2. Also my kahles out performs my nightforce atacr 416 especially in low light and wooded areas. The kahles has a brighter sight picture and a good eye box. My nightforce sight picture makes colors look more vibrant = reds look reder, yellows look more yellow, greens look greener and browns look browner. That being said my nightforce is still my baby but kahles edges out nightforce by 2 hairs.

    You suppose all this scope glint/ mirroring effect started with Carlos Hathcock taking out an enemy sniper before the sniper took him out because he identified the enemy's scope glint seconds before he took him out? Both shooters had each other in their crosshairs! Carlos got off his shot, which went through the advisory's scope tube into his eye, then brain! Hell of a shot by any standards!

    • @sdkweber
      @sdkweber 26 днів тому

      I think much of the concern about scope glint comes from video games like Call of Duty and Battlefield. Someone likely got the idea after hearing about Carlos' story. He was a great one. I think today's scope are much better and with all the coatings are pretty difficult to see a glint.
